Challenge:
BituChem are reliant on power supplied from a generator to run a specific plant on site which currently houses a 25 year old, 300kVA generator. Although it was still running, it had started to show serious signs of old age so BituChem wanted to explore replacing the generator for more reliable power on site that would also future roof their operation. HFT Forklifts, a leading supplier of material handling and storage products, are a long-term supplier of theirs and were asked to source a new generator.
BituChem needed a solution that offered increased fuel efficiency while consistently supplying a reliable and sustainable power delivery. Challenges such as motor starts & low loading were key factors that BituChem needed to consider, so choosing the right generator at the correct power node was a critical element in this upgrade project.
Solution:
Following a period of load monitoring on site and taking into account the various motor starts involved during plant start up, it was determined that a QIS 335 (300 kVA prime/330 kVA standby) was the appropriate generator for the task. Vital Power supplied, electrically installed and commissioned an Atlas Copco QIS 335 on site to ensure reliable power can be supplied for the foreseeable future.
The QIS 335 comes complete with a robust Volvo TAD1341GE engine, Mecc Alte alternator & DSE 7320 control panel. This machine was also specified with a long run fuel tank to allow more time between fuel fills.
BituChem is now on a tailored 5-year service & maintenance plan, complete with 24/7/365 call out facility to further protect site moving forward.
